Internet, Book stalls, Libraries and what not.. have talked about this book for the past four years. Last Sunday I made up my mind to start this book with my Husband.

It ends with us — Collen Hoober
It ends with us — Collen Hoover

My Husband is not used to reading books and so he dozed off in the first 20 pages. According to me its an awesome book and I regretted not reading it as soon as it was released. It is an absolute page turner filled with surprises and a lot of unexpected story changing events.

A very practical message in the initial pages— ‘I feel like everyone fakes who they really are, when deep down we’re all equal amounts of screwed up. Some of us are just better at hiding it’ increased my desire to know the story more. There are times where this book made me intrigued, sad, happy and even angry. It is a very personal and a painful book that has beautifully painted a picture of a girl’s mind.

The plot revolves around the girl’s relationship with her abusive partner and whether or not she decides to stay in it or end it. I could totally relate to her emotional tumult as a lot of people get into a relationship easily without knowing about the partner properly and try hard to come over it.

Aside the story of the girl (Lily Bloom), the author has glorified a lot more side characters — her friend Alyssa, her mother Mrs. Bloom, her Father Mr. Bloom and her ex boy friend Atlas whom I liked the most. There are numerous life learnings I could take when I finished the book,

  1. Relationships are about compromises but it should not go over board in such a way that you regret in future.
  2. Give decisions some thought before making them as even the smallest choices have the potential to change the life.

Just because we did’nt end up on the same wave, doesn’t mean we aren’t still a part of the same ocean

Every time you choose to stay , it makes the next time that much harder to leave — My favorite quotes from the book

The book has made me think a lot though it has been a couple of days I read it. ‘It starts with us’ is a sequel to this book and I can’t wait to finish the second book as well…
