I bought a FreeStyle Libre device. I’m not going to try to sell you the device, I have no stake in the company, but compared to other continuous glucose monitors, it’s inexpensive. You apply a sensor to the fleshy part of your arm, and it inserts a tiny capillary into your skin, just below the surface. There is no pain (at least there wasn’t for me) and you don’t notice that it’s there. It’s unobtrusive and there are no cables to snag on your clothing. A small scanner is then held close to the device to get a reading. What’s more, the sensor stores up to 8 hours of historical data, and so it’s possible to see how your blood sugar is trending. My blood sugar was trending up yesterday in the evening, and I was able to take small doses of insulin to stop it climbing into territory where it’s causing damage.
