I was trying to make a much narrower point, in a comment which it possibly wasn’t totally wise for me to have appended to Tiff’s original article.
But FWIW, what I’m trying to say is that I do agree that trans women deserve the same legal and human rights and the same social status as anybody else. Trans women are people.
But a post-op trans woman wasn’t born a woman, and so wouldn’t be able to claim that she had experienced life as a woman from birth.
If she went further and tried to rewrite history and say she WAS actually born a woman when in reality she wasn’t, then would that be ethical? I’d say no.
But this is all a bit too hypothetical and probably an unhelpful and irrelevant point for me to be making here. Ignore me.
