The Medium algorithm, being rational, does not look at the gender of the person writing the content. It probably looks at the the ratio of the popular posts to the total number of posts typed pertaining to your interests.
It’s wrong to blame it on the algorithm. The engineers at Medium didn’t specifically instruct the algorithm to look for men and suggest that to them.
