CS 373 Fall 2019 Week 10: Pranav Neravetla
What did you do this past week?
For the first time in a while, this past week was not very hectic for me, so I took some time to relax. I put in some work on for the next phase of our software engineering project and our group also had to fix some issues that were lingering from previous projects. My family also came to town to visit me, and we went to the F1 qualifying event on Saturday at the Circuit of the Americas. It was the first time that I had gone to that kind of event so it was a new experience, which I enjoyed.
What’s in your way?
This next week is going to be a bit hectic for me. I have an algorithms test on Monday which I am not completely ready for as I will spend the majority of this weekend studying for that. We also have the next phase of the project due on Thursday, and we have a lot of work to do on that. I am also flying up to Charlotte on Wednesday morning for a final round interview, so I also have to prepare for that. Since I won’t be back until late Thursday night, I have to try to finish up everything I need to for the project before I leave or work on it remotely.
What will you do next week?
Next week, I will work on the next phase of the software engineering project since it is due on Thursday. I will also fly to Charlotte for my final round interview. I will also study for my Algorithms test that is on Monday.
What was your experience of SQL? (this question will vary, week to week)
I had some experience with SQL prior to Professor Downing going over it in class because I am working on that part for the project. However, most of the queries that I made were quite basic and the lectures on SQL in the class were quite interesting and I learned a lot about the various operations that can be done using SQL and their utility.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
If you are trying to get a younger family member some basic experience with programming, I would recommend starting with Code.org. Code.org has all kinds of games that help kids get exposure to coding while at the same time being entertaining.
