Indian army never willingly initiated a war.And we can say many more like this.I will say some more as we carry forward.Coming to the history of Indian army,as I said it was started in 1776 by Britishers. When it was started it was under the control of East India Company and it’s main aim was to get different territories of India under their control. In world war-1 1.3 million Indian soldiers fought on behalf of the British. In which more than 74,000 never returned back. And in world war 2,2.3 Indian military men participated in which 89,000 were died. Indianisation of our army started in 1912 and was finally done on 15 jan 1949 with Lieutenant General K.M. Cariappa’s taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. And now it’s headquarters is in New Delhi.

Since then the Indian army has been involved in four wars with Pakistan and one with China. And none of them were initiated by us.

FIRST KASHMIR WAR:

Immediately after Independence two separate nations India and Pakistan were formed,Now Kashmir was the major interest but there was no response from the king of Kashmir. So Pakistan started invading Kashmir and the king of Kashmir asked help from India. This was the cause for first war.Since there has been high tension at the Loc (Line of control) until now.

SINO-INDIAN WAR:

This happened in 1962, when Nehru was our Prime Minister. The main reason for this war is for some areas in the border of India and China. The line between India and China is commonly known as the McMohan. The war witnessed many political problems in India. Even the Indian Defence minister at that time Krishna Menon resigned to his post after the war.

KARGIL WAR:

In 1998 Pakistan army started invading some of Kashmir areas.Indian army immediately started Operation Vijay. But the draw back was that Pakistan army occupied much of the high altitude area which gave them a full sight of the surrounding areas. But the Indian forces was successful in recapturing most of the areas. Following the Washington accord Sharif agreed to withdraw Pakistani troops, most of the fighting came to a gradual halt, but some Pakistani forces remained in positions on the Indian side of the Loc. The United Jihad Council(an extremist group) rejected Pakistan’s plan for a climb-down, instead deciding to continue there fight . The Indian Army launched its final attacks in the last week of July and finally the war ended on 26 July.Which is now celebrated as Kargil Victory Day in India. In the war number of Indian soldiers killed were 527,while more than 700 of Pakistani soldiers were killed. The number of Islamist fighters, also known as Mujahideen, killed by Indian Armed Forces during the war was about 3,000.

At present Indian army is the largest weapon importer in the world.

With most of its weapons importing from Israel and Russia.Over 11 percent of total world importing of weapons is constituted by India.Even it imports some of it’s armory from France.
