NUS MBA Diaries… Part 1: Case Competition

It is my last month at NUS Business School — the time to look back. As I stroll in the garden of carefully accumulated memories, I attempt to pick out a few flowers — a few experiences — that stand out as the cliched quintessential ones in a B School life. When in Rome, be a Roman, they said. When in B School too, there are a few boxes to tick. This is a series of the B School boxes I ticked and my key take-aways from doing so.

I start the series with the most recent, and unarguably, the most memorable B School experience thus far — a case competition. Specifically, I was recently a part of the winning team at Siam Commercial Bank Future Leader Challenge 2018 (SCBFLC — https://www.scbflc.com). The entire journey through the many rounds of the competition was an exquisite experience. My choice of adjective here is well considered. The organization of this competition is indeed a piece of art and perfection. The organizing committee ought to take a bow for their clock-work like execution of each step in the competition. The participants ought to bow, too, in gratitude to the organizing committee, for the luxurious and exotic arrangements made for us during the competition week in Thailand.

How it all began

SCBFLC 2018 was floated by NUS, promising travel sponsorship upon clearing the preliminary rounds. The prize money and, more importantly, His Majesty, the Thai King’s Award to be presented to the winning team were a huge luring draw towards the competition. So, when Sid asked me…
