My experience after using paid version of both spotify and gaana

If you live in India then you must know that gaana is a huge music streaming service here. As on Feb 2020, Gaana reached 150 million active users, which is a huge number.

I have and currently been using both the services for listening to music and therefore feel the need to speak about the difference between the two.

1. INTERFACE

‘people ignore design that ignores people’ — Frank Chimero

In terms of interface and overall layout, I believe spotify has a win. Spotify’s layout is more simple and easy to as compared to gaana

As you can see that spotify has a straight forward design. But,

gaana on the other have has a little more confusing design and lots of buttons that can make a user confused.

2. MUSIC COLLECTION

Spotify has a wide array of music along with lots of music from other language artists, whereas gaana has less music collection as compared to spotify.

You can practically get most of the songs in spotify, but not in gaana

3. PRICING

This is where gaana has a huge advange, because of the competitive pricing that it has. Spotify has put their price way above as compared to gaana

Monthly wise both the services do not have much difference, but when it comes to annual, there comes the biggest difference.

Annual subscription for gaana is 399rs and for spotify its 1189 which is 790rs more than gaana. Which means add 8rs to that and its three times more expensive than gaana annual subscription.

4. ADVERTISEMENT

Gaana has a more straightforward way of earning via ads

Banner ads that we all know of

Dont worry they’ll go after buy their free subscription

Spotify on the other hand has more subtle way of ads.

They place voice ads of 30 second after every 3rd song along with a banner that is clickable.

One thing about spotify is they put a voice ad saying that we should not have voice ads, so buy their premium service. That i feel is a genius method.

Me personally I love both subscription platforms. Gaana for their affordable plans and spotify for their wide collection of songs. I have bought gaana’s annual subscription which i use while travelling as offline music and spotify while in office as i have reliable internet connection.

Also gaana was cheaper for me with only 199rs.
