Wat Pho, also known as Temple of the Reclining Buddha, is one of Bangkok’s oldest temple. In fact, it was built even before the city was recognized as the capital of Thailand. The structure has many temples built within and of course, one with the 46 m long Buddha. The temple is filled with countless statues of Buddha and other religious aspects.

The architecture of the temples is astonishingly well preserved and beautiful, with tiny detailing and bright colors. The shikharas or the top of the temple is very narrow and long with symmetrical designs on it. The inside of the temples are quite breath-taking as well, big and open space with deities of
Buddha and murals lined along the walls.

The long and big statue of Buddha laying across the floor is just spectacularly built. It is made with gold on the inside and an alloy of gold and copper. The long Buddha’s feet are filled with big and small murals of auspicious symbols. The reclining Buddha represents the entry of Buddha in an ultimate state of soteriological release.

There is an entry fee of about around 200 baht. You can wear shorts and sleeveless clothes but you have to wear a skirt or a shawl over it. Outside the temple are loads of street vendors selling fresh fruity and bright refreshments. They don’t have any fixed prices so you can bargain with them. We had a very refreshing coconut ice cream which they provide in a coconut itself. Yummm!!

This place is definitely worth going to. We enjoyed a lot and hopefully, so will you.
