Women led Startups Riding High
The startup ecosystem has always been gender biased which is obvious with the difference in the number of startups led by men versus startups led by women. But today as you read, the startup ecosystem is all about ROI, exits, employees, customers, investors and the product/service.
CNBC`s inaugural Upstart 25: Promising young startups list witnessed 10 startups with female founders.
According to the 2016 Kauffman Index of Startup Activity, in US 40% of the new entrepreneurs are women. The TINYpulse 2017 annual startup report states, “For growing start-ups, those with female founders almost universally outperformed their male-only counterparts. The fastest growing companies at 200%+ growth, are 75% more likely to have a female founder.” Below is a screenshot of the TINYpulse report which also shows women startup founders having achieved big exits.

India has seen a high surge in the women led startup space in the last 2 years. As per National Sample Survey Organization, 14% of the business organizations are run by women in India. There is no dearth of opportunities for women in this startup ecosystem with more VCs coming forward and investing in women led startups. There are multiple avenues for women to set up their startups through accelerators, groups and communities supporting women startups.
Oracle Startup Cloud Accelerator program is an initiative to foster innovation, encouraging tech startups across the globe. This program provides a robust platform to the startups through which they can grow and scale their business. Lean In is a non profit organization supporting women. They function in group of circles formed by women volunteers with specific focus areas enabling women to achieve their goals. Recently Lean In Bangalore has partnered with Oracle Startup Cloud Accelerator as an outreach partner encouraging more and more women led startups to achieve the goals.
With more and more women making their way to the top of the startup chart-buster lists across the globe, they are definitely perceived as the upcoming game changers.
