Employer Branding: Attract the Best Talent
It is a well-known fact that employees are known by the place they work in. For instance, the minute people find out that I work for Shaadi.com, I get attacked by prospective brides/grooms and sometimes even parents dishing out those long horoscope scrolls!
It is evident from here that people associate my workplace as the quintessential brand for fixing weddings. It’s the power of impression on the minds of people is what makes this brand so successful and popular.
In this day and age of mobile and digitization; when we are reading, understanding and exploring everything on just an application, we as the HR fraternity need to take the plunge and find out how exactly we can attract the right person for the right job. And to start this off, we should pay heed to the concept of employer branding.
Employer Branding
So, what is this employer branding you might think? Well, it’s the process of promoting a company/organization to its target audience whom it eventually plans to hire and even retain. It’s the happy mixture of job satisfaction, market standard salary packages, perfect work-life balance, a unique culture, a friendly and safe work environment and lots of other criteria.
Now, at this point you might think “C’mon, it’s easier said than done!” to which I would agree but how about we look at some of the key features via which you can make your company’s branding to it prospective employees shine out amongst the rest of the crowd.
1. Unique Culture
Unique Culture — Employer Branding
Let us start with the basics. A lot of employers boast about their “amazing work culture” when asked to elaborate are at a loss for words! Develop a culture that has a connection with your ethics and company goals and define it clearly.
Think how it makes you the apple among all the lemons in the basket. Once that is done, project it out loud and clear.
2. A Healthy Work-Life Balance:
A healthy and mentally sane person would definitely want this more than anything else from his/her employer. With the increase in the levels of stress, diseases and of course traffic, this is one factor that is dear to every working individual.
If you as an employer can showcase how you are a staunch believer in it or quote employees who are actually experiencing the same in your organization/company, trust me you have almost won over your possible employee!
Go on and post pictures and videos of your existing employees on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc. and show the world how amazing it is to work with your brand.
3. Friendly, Flexible and Safe working environment:
Absolutely no one wants to work with an employer who keeps breathing down the necks of his/her employees, constantly abuses, does not entertain any creativity and provides an unsafe working environment.
Give your employees a good infrastructure firstly, top it up with things like comfortable chairs, spacious desks, a well-stocked pantry, maybe a gym (if space permits), conveyance, retirement and medical benefits and finally put the cherry on the top by appreciating and recognizing their efforts and work and giving them their personal space when it is required.
Once this is down, simply sit back and watch how employees themselves provide amazing testimonials for your brand!
4. Invest in a Good Website:
Good Website — Employer Branding
This is the first impression that your potential employee will have about your company, so ensure that you not only invest in a good, attractive and user-friendly website but also maintain it and be responsive on it.
A website that dates back to 1975 with hundreds of unread posts and a horrible layout will only minimize your chances of a good company image! Similarly, if you are active on social media and love “hash-tagging” your brand, ensure that you follow up with all the comments and questions ASAP.
If possible load up your website with current employee testimonials along with that of your stakeholders and clients. This further boosts up a potential employee’s curiosity and zeal to be a part of your brand.
A long time ago, people associated employer branding as something which is nice to have but in this day of digitization, it is crucial to have. Recruitment will suffer tremendously if we are unable to sell our brand and showcase to the world how different we are from our competitors.
Do you have any more pointers on this? Are you following some unique steps to brand your company? Do share them here because we got to stick together to make this work in favor of us. Let us help each other out!
