Rebranding the world’s fastest-growing restaurant reservation platform — The Story Behind Quandoo’s New Logo!
“Quandoo, an online reservation platform, offers online channels and mobile apps to search, find and reserve restaurants in real-time. Quandoo has their existing identity, which looks to me like a plate/dish.
The combination of the mark + wordmark, the complete logo of Quandoo has it’s wordmark “uandoo” after the Q mark.
The existing identity for Quandoo, which I find simple, elegant, and strong has been with Quandoo almost forever. It doesn’t seem that Quandoo had a different identity earlier to this point. The recent iterations look a bit updated on the same mark by making the shape a proper circle.
Quandoo • An Unsolicited Redesign
When I started working on a redesign project/case study which I was planning to send to Quandoo, one thing I started questioning was the identity. What does the mark really stand for?
The UI/UX Redesign project/case study is altogether a different Medium article. You can read it here.
Q that looks like a dish and not a table
Most of the visual graphics from Quandoo focused on a plate on the mark, which I personally thought was conveying ordering food instead of booking a table. Where is the table?
So, with this in mind, I set a goal of creating a logo that would be a better reflection of what Quandoo actually represents, and where it can head from there.
After exploring different kinds of ideas for the new identity, I pursued a concept that has the logo made with a number of sides or shapes. An identity in itself as a three dimension, that flows and forms a sharp mark. Something that looks like Q and a Table.
At last, the finalised one was a simple geometric interpretation of the letter ‘Q’, with a delightful appearance, a hidden Q in it and overall a ‘table’ feel on the mark.
For the wordmark, a typeface was used to customise its edges. Sharp corners were redone to make them smooth so that the sharp edges of the mark go along with the smoother wordmark. The result lets the mark and wordmark live comfortably together.
The wordmark is to be used in instances where the brand name needs recognition and not just the visual recognition of the Quandoo logo.
Different versions of the logo
Now, let’s look at different versions of the logo. The standard version, which should be the one used for most instances, is the four tinted yellow variants. Other than this, there is a grayscale version to be used in rare cases. The one colour version, or the monochrome version, is to be used in all cases where it is allowed. An example is the status bar icon on Android phones.
For celebrations, or special occasions (like Christmas, Pride day, etc), there will be special variations for Quandoo which need not be yellow-ish.
I hope you will like the proposed new logo. For suggestions, please contact: prasil@live.com
