Google Summer of Code, OpenAstronomy Class of 2017

You’ve locked yourself in your room; told no one to disturb you and have been refreshing a list of tabs to the beats of an Emmit Fenn song (Painting Greys to be exact)

Suddenly, one of those tabs shows some updated content.
And then you see your project listed among the selected projects for OpenAstronomy, Google Summer of Code 2017.

A simple example of what happiness looks like

What will you have done at this moment? I don’t know about you, but what I did was : —
1. Open the door to my room.
2. Go past the circle of friends crowded just outside. All the while making sure to keep my face completely expressionless.
3. Find a bit of open space nearby and
4. Scream “YAAHHHOOOO!!” at the top of my voice for a good few minutes.

Seriously though, the past month had been an exasperating period of restlessness. I troubled myself with questions like “Was the effort I put into this enough?”, “Did I made a silly mistake somewhere that’ll get my proposal rejected”, “What’s stopping the OpenAstronomy organization from deciding to take no one this year, just so that can enjoy the ensuing fireworks?”, “What will I do if I don’t get selected?” and even “What will I do if I do get selected!?”.

I’m really, really glad to say that I’ll be finding the answer to the last question in this summer.

…Just as soon as my semester-end exams, which aren’t going very well to be honest (I blame the whole “GSoC — To be or not to be” worry), wrap up.
