Design Better Call to Action (CTA) Button
Design is not just to make it colorful or beautiful but there is a whole lot of science involved behind every small details. Just like CTA buttons. Designers sometimes don’t understand what to do to make a good CTA button beyond being attractive and fitting into the design. But call to action buttons need a lot of understanding and logic as they get users to achieve their goals.
Previously designers used gradient, lot of graphics to make the button stand out, but now as we are moving towards flat design and minimal design, here are few things to help you design more effective CTA buttons:
- Make use of whitespace: Make sure there’s lot of space around your button so that it doesn’t feel cluttered, makes it stand out and easy for user to locate it.

2. Color and Size: Deciding what colors and what size to use for CTA buttons is very important. Use colors in your CTA buttons that have a high contrast relative to background and also your CTA buttons should ideally be the largest buttons on a given page because it is critical to ensure that the user notices your call to action.

3. Text to use: Users should be very clear what will happen if they will click the button. The text should be simple and direct “Add to Cart” or “Buy Now” both look similar but have different meaning. So make sure user can predict whats going to happen when they click the button.

4. Provide Extra Information: Make sure you add some extra information when it add to user expereince. Don’t make long sentences. Usually people give more information when it is a trail button or download button. Eg Netflix tell user that join free for a month.

5. Prioritise: If there are more than one call to action, set priority. Differentiate the buttons usually people do it with colour or size to make more important button stand out.
