We ought to pull out time for Ourselves

In between the deadlines for deliverables and submissions, we tend to oversee someone very important. And that’s you!

Sam, who has been working as a software developer in a product based company for the last one year. He is an alumnus of a prestigious engineering college and had big plans to tour unexplored India before he starts working to make a living out of it. But things didn’t turned out the way he wanted. Sam had to join his workplace soon after he finished his college. He had left his home and traveled to a new city far south. As a trainee, he put great efforts to contribute in the software development of a product. And as the date of release of the product came closer, he started putting more effort and stayed late in the office. The release went great. This time around, he also became a developer and proved his mantel at work. This was followed by his association with another product whose deployment was more complex from the previous one. The work got better of him and his association with his social life became bleaker and bleaker.

After a stint of a year into his work, he realises that he is missing out his family and friends. He is hasn’t been home since he started working for the firm. He has lost track of his friend circle at college. He occasionally socialized with his colleagues at cafe and bars. Life had become monotonous and he needed a break to chill things out.

Had he given time for himself and socialized with his friends and family all these time, today Sam would have been more positive towards his work and social life. Pulling out time for yourself might sound difficult in these times at corporate and startup firms but this is crucial way to keep ourselves positive at work and home. Spend a balanced amount of time with your loved ones. Spend time outdoors by touring unexplored places with your friends. Have a sound conversations with your family on a regular basis. Indulge with your hobbies. These might be some of the few things that you should try while you still working to meet your deadlines. This might sound odd, but trust me, it works in your benefit.

In today’s race against time, pull out time for yourself. Explore the unexplored. Socialize hard with your friends. Meet your family regularly. And you would see, a better you!
