The iPhone X: Apple’s Ideology of American Techno-Exceptionalism
Five Alive

I watched the highlights, and read the specs of the new phone with a puzzled expression. Largely as the phone I type this on, (a OnePlus 3t) has an AMOLED screen, 6GB of RAM, 64GB storage, an 821 chip, and a 3400mAh battery. It has a primary 16MP f/2.0 camera with autofocus and OIS. While the selfie cam is also 16MP f/2.0 albeit with a smaller pixel size, and no bells or whistles.

It cost $360.

Admittedly, it’s still got a chin and a forehead, as well as a lightning fast finger print sensor, and a headphone jack. Nor is the screen as high-resolution. But even at the pedestrian 1080p I still can’t see the pixels with the naked eye, (~401ppi)

It’s a 5.5 inch display with a ~73.1% screen to body ratio. Dual SIM world phone, it was released in November 2016.

Yet yesterday Apple announced a slightly better phone for $600+ more. Not to mention what it costs in Europe.

I have long been an Apple fanboi, but I’ll admit I just don’t get it. This is a spec bump to an old phone. Yet the tech press are going wild. Madness.
