--

Visit of the Magi

Magus (plural “Magi”) is a Latin word which means a member of priestly class of ancient Persia. Gospel speaks of Magi, or wise men, who followed a star from the East to Bethlehem. Their names were Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthasar. They found baby Jesus and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

It is believed that they found Jesus twelve days after his birth, on January 6th. This day is celebrated as the Feast of Epiphany.
