Report: Canadian Tech Sector Giving a Boost in Canada’s Employment

According to a report provided by Brookfield Institute, the tech sector is responsible for a substantial portion of Canada’s employment in 2015. Close to a 900,000 employees were from the tech sector in 2015. Although it is only close to half of employment by retail trade, it still gave Canada employment a big boost. Compared to the finance and insurance industry, which falls short of 700,000 employees. Canada’s tech sector is much bigger than thought. New job opportunities that did not exist 10 or 20 years ago are rapidly arising.

The tech sector alone, generated $117 billion of Canada’s total $1.65 trillion GDP in 2015. More than two thirds of the 71,000 firms in the tech sector are operated with fewer than four employees.
