AI Interview
Enhancing the efficiency of the hiring process through tailored interview rounds aligned with the job profile.
What is AI Interview Tool all about?
Let’s say a company X wants to hire candidates. The first step for the HR is to call the candidate for a basic screening. There are going to be a lot of candidates who are applying for jobs. Can we make this process optimized considering we leverage AI?
Company X comes across AI Interview, a tool which helps to streamline the recruitment process that conducts initial round of interviews with candidates, assessing their qualifications, skills, based on the job profile.
Role: Product Designer
Deliverables: Final Visual Design
Duration: 3 days (February 26, 2024 — February 28, 2024)
Tools Used: Figma, FigJam
My Process
Definitely not a linear one :)
I went back and forth through my iterations, feedback and research and to sum up, this was how my process looked like.
Assumptions
- AI Interview tool is powered by Unacademy. So I aligned with their brand and aesthetics.
- Leveraging AI, the reports of the assessment will be generated in a few seconds
Research
I researched about how we can leverage AI for streamlining interview process, onboarding flows and how audio and video based interviews can help recruiters understand the candidates better.
It typically spans nearly 48 days for a candidate to complete the hiring process, from initial application submission through HR screening, multiple interview rounds, and receiving the final offer. 🤯
User Flow
Primarily the users for the candidates portal are people who are seeking jobs.
Branding
Reversed Unacademy’s logo and made it like a user icon. Felt boring and normal 🤔
I wanted to make it more meaningful which also represented the words “AI” and landed on a logo which meant career elevation for candidates. For the typography, I used Unacademy’s font AvertaStd.
Visual Design
Here’s the final version of the tool if you are interested to view my visual design first :)
Let’s dive deep into my brain now✨
My iteration board
I had incorporated feedbacks by self-assessing the designs by myself and with a mentors guidance during the process.
Messier the comments, greater the learning curve!🚀
Landing Page
I wanted the landing page to be simple and align well with Unacademy’s landing page. I utilized Storyset for assets and played around micro-interactions in the subheading to convey what this tool is all about.
For the sign up process, I incorporated Google sign up and manual sign up.
Onboarding
Initially, I wanted to gather all the necessary details from the user in one comprehensive step.
Did that work? Nooooo!!!
I spent researching on various websites like Indeed, Naukri on how the onboarding was done and I broke it down. I added personalized UX copies for headers in each section to allow candidates to understand what this page is about in few seconds.
Job Listing
I wanted to break down the homepage into 3 sections — profile insights, job listings and interviews. But I had a question running on my mind—
What do the users want to see first?
If it is the Job Listings page, why do we need profile insights as a separate section?
I decided to remove the tab on the top and move towards a card layout for viewing metrics for the candidates.
What can this tool give to the candidates in the first phase? 🎁
A free resume review✨
Pre-assessment Information
Now, this is getting serious.
The candidate has onboarded successfully to the tool and has viewed a job that aligns with their goals.
Let’s start assessing them.
But wait! Are they familiar with the environment? Do they know how the interface would look like? Why not give them a sneak peak?
My first iteration was basically educating users about the screening round verbally. After a careful consideration, I wanted to put this information in a modal where:
- On the first section, I allow the users to read about what is coming in the assessment
- On the second section, I allow the users to preview a small video of how the interface would look like so that the users get familiar with the environment
Assessment Main Page
Table layout did not align well with respect to visual while looking at the overall flow, thus I switched to a card based layout for quicker skimming of content.
Assessment Sections
I aimed for users focusing on the questions on their left. And by allocating a dedicated space on the right for answers — be it textual, verbal or video, I wanted to promote concentration and mindfulness during the assessment.
Reports
The tool is powerful that the results are generated in no time. Reports basically indicate how the candidate performed during their assessment, what is their percentage, benchmarking, what are they good at and what are the things that they need to improve on.
What’s next? Actionable next steps..
Allowing the user to perform some actionable steps post the interview will help them get one step closer to their dream job.
My Learnings
Adding Delight
I aimed to incorporate delight through various means and discovered the significance of enhancing user experience with delight, acknowledging that my approach is continually evolving.
UX Copy
In my initial stages, I felt that my copies were rigid and less user friendly. I realized that the copies did not connect with the user much and after thoughtful consideration and exploration, I made them better.
Seamless flow
I initially felt that my flow was rigid and not very user-friendly. I incorporated smaller things, which I think made a huge impact — like adding “importing from LinkedIn”, showing the progress bar to understand how far are the candidates, adding video guide on how assessment tool works.
