Closed Case and the President’s Trip

Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today closed its case against Joshua Dariye, a former governor of Plateau State on money laundering charges. The former governor will have to defend the charges leveled against him on an adjourned date. He is said to have laundered and fraudulently used state resources for personal use while he was governor. He is still a fugitive in the UK.

President Muhammadu Buhari have gone on a trip to seek medical treatment for an ear infection in London. On Saturday we reported that the President was ill, which his media aid stated that everything is well with Mr. President. With a failing medical system in the country and the President’s past rhetoric that indeed change is here, by saying no public official can go on a medical trip with state money. Pundits argue that having made such powerful statement he should have lead by example. Another case was the huge budgetary allocation to the State House Clinic which surpassed the allocation for federal hospitals in the country, which many believe that the clinic is enough to take care of the President’s infection with such amount allocated to it.
