Be a Leader: How to be a Powerful Woman

Unlike what most people would want to believe, not everyone is a natural-born leader. Not everyone is a great leader either; however, all is not lost. Leadership skills can be taught and developed throughout the course of a life time. The key is to have patience and trust the process. Remember, sometimes great things don’t all happen at once no matter how badly we would like them to.

Men and Women have different leadership tendencies

As obvious as this might seem to be, it’s still important to remember that both men and women have different ways of giving direction to a team of people. According to philanthropist Dame Stephanie Shirley, “male leadership, and I know this is a stereotype, is very much command and control.” There are some male leaders/male dominated companies that prefer to act in a militaristic manner. One person (the leader) maintains control and orders the team (the group) to complete the objective. There is little to zero collaboration involved in this type of work environment. For some people this is the direction that they will need, but there are other people who would not succeed given these limitations. So what have female leaders done to oppose the more “command/control” rhetoric?

In this video with STEVE DEZ he teaches you why we NEED to become a Powerful woman in order to accomplish your dreams.

Focus on being inclusive and respectful

“The motto that I try to live by is that I am anyone’s equal, but I am no one’s superior.” — Shami Chakrabarti, CBE

In most inclusive environments (or teams, if you will), there is increased growth, collaboration, and contribution between all parties involved. Instead of giving people direct ABC orders, the idea is to offer much more creative freedom so people can think outside the box when working on a project. This might not be the quickest method to achieving a final goal, but it allows the team to exercise multiple options before settling on a direction that the leader believes is best for the group. It makes the team feel that the direction forward is shared momentum, and this reinforces group morale.

By reinforcing group morale, the leader often times earns and gains the respect of the team. Respect can make or break relationships. Respect can make or break success.
