Chamath Palihapitiya’s Views
Chamath Palihapitiya has made some impressive gains in the ventures he has invested in. His favorite, however, seems to be trading in Bitcoin. Although this cryptocurrency recently went through some volatility, it surged by approximately 300% this year. This is despite Jamie Damon, Chief Executive of JPMorgan, labeling Bitcoin as a “fraud” that is doomed to fail.
Palihapitiya said in an interview with CNBC Pro that nobody has the ability to stop Bitcoin seeing as nobody has the ability to control it. In Palihapitiya’s view the debate shouldn’t be about whether Bitcoin should be treated as a legitimate form of currency or not, instead, there should be a wider discussion around whether this currency has better uses.
Palihapitiya also shared his views while attending the Delivering Alpha conference held on September 12th this year. At the conference, he said the real question should be how users can use Bitcoin in a more productive way to solve society’s issues such as infrastructure and financial services.
What James Gorman, CEO Of Morgan Stanley Had To Say?
The CEO of Morgan Stanley, James P Gorman, believes that cryptocurrencies have more potential than what Jamie Damon would like to believe. Gorman recently said at an event organized by the Wall Street Journal that Bitcoin wasn’t just a fad. His opinions of Bitcoin are in contrast to Jamie Damon’s who believes that the hype around Bitcoin won’t end well.
Gorman also has a differing viewpoint from Damon with respect to the relationship between cryptocurrencies and governments. Damon believes that sooner or later, the government will crack down on digital currencies. Gorman, on the other hand, said that the more sophisticated technology trends will eventually compel authorities to adapt to digital currencies.
