Board Biz Blurb July 2017

The board met on July 18th, 2017 and had a two hour meeting.

We reviewed the year end financials and talked through staff contracts. We discussed the upcoming welcoming of our new minister Rev. Hurt and what that transition needs in terms of people, time and talent. We discussed needing a transition team, the start up workshop offered by the UU regional staff and decided to schedule leadership retreat in September.

We were reminded in staff reports that our student minister’s last preaching Sunday is May 18th, 2018 which sounds far away, but we know how fast time flies around here.

We caught up with each other about things happening this summer — there is a renter that might want to rent out the room near the kitchen, two dead trees will be taken down on fourth street and there is a team forming in response to the sanctuary motion at the annual meeting.

The “idea of the night” to think about was: We have a lot of initiatives related to the transition, the student minister, stewardship, and the strategic plan that either require small group meetings or would be dramatically helped by small groups. Do you think we could assign people to small groups and let them get accustomed to each other now before we need to start doing the work together? OR will we need to assign different people to different groups for different work? Should they still have a home group that they are assigned to in order to gather, process and socialize?
