Pusheen Has Done It Again
Pusheen is back — but in the AR market now
On March 20, 2020, the verified Pusheen account on Instagram released a brand new filter celebrating the famed cat’s birthday. The filter features Pusheen on top of the user’s head, with confetti raining
down to commemorate the kitty’s birthday.
What does it do?
Well, not much. This isn’t a bad thing though, since the cute factor absolutely makes up for any shortfalls. You can see here (left) that the plump kitty just sits atop one’s head, as you turn, you can see her chubby lil’ kitty body. She also smiles and whatnot, all while confetti and other fun things rain down upon you and Pusheen.
Who even uses this stuff?
Pusheen fans for starters, the announcements were posted to Instagram where all of her devoted followers see her there. The post was posted onto the main Pusheen account for all her followers to see. Pusheen’s followers typically include younger people 25 years old and younger. The kitty is a has a niche fan base of those who like to collect, create, or just like objects associated with the cute cat. I mean, respect, I love that cat.
OK, but what about the AR stuff?
The fun lil’ Instagram filter, officially titled, “Pusheen Celebration” by Pusheen, is a 3DOF filter. What does this mean? 3DOF stands for “3 Degrees of Freedom”, meaning that the filter only has a function for your face, really. So, you could move your head up, down, side to side, and left to right, and the filter still works. The filter acts like a “mask” in the way that it needs to know where your face is at, so that Pusheen can lay atop your head. The camera will recognize your face so that the filter can be applied.
General Take
As a fellow Pusheen fan, this filter is absolutely adorable, and completely satisfies my need for an Instagram filter for Pusheen. Some of the strengths here I believe are that the kitty doesn’t need much in order to be successful. Again, when you’re a cute fat cat, you don’t need much in order to be a people pleaser. The fact that Pusheen sits on top of your head, with colorful fun confetti is a great time as is. Now, that doesn’t mean there isn’t always room for improvement. Perhaps in the future, there could be a filter where you see Pusheen virtually sitting anywhere you choose, or maybe you could interact with the cat somehow when you touch it, or if you move your face a certain way. Overall, I’m stoked with anything Pusheen related, and I think it’s a grand time.
