Excellent writing thank you. I fear that in the public mind, science will have a lower standing in the near future (say, two years from now :) ) because of the abundant hyperbole. Those who do not adhere to a common gospel are called skeptics and deniers. Silly slogans like “ the science is settled” implies that the role of science is to be used by politicians and activists for whatever purpose. People will not be able to tell fake science from real. Journalists will peddle anything that sells. Charlatans and fraudsters will be everywhere. Hold on — aren’t we there already?
