Think

Ever since I started college I’ve had a lot more quiet time to myself than usual. Five minutes between classes here; another five during dinner there, fifty minutes during chemistry lecture, and a whole lot of time at night lying in bed, too wired by caffeine at 2 A.M. to fall asleep, but too exhausted to get out of bed and do anything productive. It’s during those times that I really spend the most time thinking.

People have always said that introverts possess these powers that others don't; I think one of those powers is their ability to go so long and just simply think. When I think, I think about life. I think about myself. I think about my family, my friends. I think a lot about what life should be like and I think a lot about what life is. Its scary thing, to think, that is. Sometimes I get so lost within my own thoughts I find it hard to differentiate betwen reality and a figmentation of my imagination.

That being said, I truly do reccomend spending more time thinking. Some incubators for thought I’d highly recommend include lecture hall classes, and the kitchen as your mom yells at you. It’s amazing how well the mind finds a way to engage itself when someone else is trying to engage it.

Thinking is probably one of the most undervalued abilities of society. Some of the the greatest minds the world has ever seen take extraordinary times out of their days to think. People all over the world have always promoted different ways of thinking and we regard them as these different entitities. Whatever you call it, meditation, mindfulness, serenity, introspection, reflection; it’s all thinking.

But hey, I’m just an 18 year old college student mildly crazed by a lack of sleep.

Don’t believe me?

Stop reading this article and take some time to think. Think about something, think about anything, maybe even think so hard you stop thinking. Sit and think, stand and think, walk and think, lie down and think, just spend some time expoloring the hidden nooks and crannies your brain has hidden, and you just might be surprised to see what you find.
