Lessons for My Son — I Believe in You

Found this in the center of my heart but could not claim authorship…

Son, this day marks seven days before your next birthday and I am feeling the overwhelming need to tell you some things you don’t know or have forgotten about yourself. I want to tell you these for the next days leading up to your big day.

In the first place, I want you to know that you are a genius. I remember when you were little and I was amazed at how you could spell the word “Computer” without as much as a stutter. I know that person is still in you. I just know it!

Secondly, I am proud of you. I know I have not been there for you as much as I should but I never stop praying that all will be well with you. Son, I see greatness in you. You have talents you don’t even discover yet. You have had a very challenging life but you will never give up because that is not a part of your DNA. You have an indomitable fighting spirit that your circumstances and feelings will sometimes deny but can never destroy. You have greatness within you.

Thirdly, I want you to know that I also struggle with issues and challenges that sometimes gets me down and make me feel like “What’s this all about? What’s the use?” but I try to catch up on myself and remind the “real me” that problems, issues and challenges (pick your word) — they always have a solution, they have a promise from God and a provision as well. They also have a lesson to be learnt on my way to living at the next level of success. They are my stepping stones and I am fast developing the attitude that welcomes them in anticipation of the treasures they have for me, the upgrade, the favour from God. This is how I see you living your life, son.

I only see you as the man I want you to become, poised, brilliant yet humble, successful yet cordial, blessed yet contrite, spiritual yet approachable. This is how I see you and nothing will change that. You see, son — “I Love you, unconditionally, and there is nothing you can do to change that. Nothing!” I am blessed to have you in my life.

Until tomorrow. Stay focused. Stay Loved!
