IF HILLARY WAS NIGERIAN

Sometimes when I look at the Nigerian people, I laugh and just marvel at the myopic situation of a people. Most Nigerians all of a sudden have become political gladiators for the American people, joining the Hillary Clinton campaign group. When I noticed the surge I couldn’t help but laugh.

During the last general elections in Nigeria, there was a Hillary Clinton in Nigeria, she is Remi Sonaiya. I don’t belong to the class of people you’ll call 'feminist' but I believe a lot in women in government. After acquainting myself with some of the Presidential aspirants, I concluded that Remi was the fairest of them all. I remember talking the Remi idea to some Nigerians and Nigerian youths, only for people to start saying she’s a woman, what tribe is she from? What is her religion? And the most ridiculous question I was asked, what will her husband be called, first gentleman?

A lot of those who think picking the well known evils in place of our presumed angelic Sonaiya are now shouting in support of Hillary. When will Nigerians start seeing change, real change and start adopting it?

With due respect to former president of the country and the current one, Sonaiya was a much better option. If and whenever you think it wise to do so, look up her bio. This woman has more diplomatic experience than both 'big aspirants' during the 2015 elections. She wasn’t exceptionally rich, yet not so poor. She isn’t known to be a liar, neither has she been accused of misappropriation in any past, recent or late. She is a representation of the 'ordinary Nigerian’. She has been a conference interpreter on many levels, including ECOWAS.

Someone come and tell me what difference is there between Clinton and Sonaiya? Apart from Hillary being former senator, Secretary of state which Remi has made up with her numerous international participations. We have a Nigerian who has a masters and served the nation at Nigeria Military School, Zaria.

If Hillary was Nigerian, she wouldn't have survived the Remi questions either.

What will we call your husband?
We're Africans, no woman can lead us, yet we encourage our girls to be like Queen Amina of Zauzau
She cannot handle the pressure, yeah? But Hillary can?

Perhaps, just perhaps Remi and her likes will be made relevant in Nigerian political scene when the African culture defenders start getting civilized and when the people stop treating every female politician as a slut who is attention seeking, and start treating them as a representation of the people where necessary.

Wait, what people?
