New Wave Hero: Robert Bresson

Bresson is sometimes seen as a precursor to the French New Wave through his early innovations in cinematic language. He used nonprofessional actors and didn’t try to get them to act, instead leaving their emotions up to audience interpretation. His films were quiet and deep and often important events were not even shown on screen! Oh, and also he was one of Godard’s heroes so there’s that. He did his own thang.
