The Simple Truth

Sermon by MaiJai Doshi

Natural Spirituality isn’t about the “search” for truth. Natural Spirituality doesn’t offer “answers” because Natural Spirituality isn’t about the question of why? Nor, does it offer the answer to the real question most people are asking, which not why but why me? Natural Spirituality is an answer to the question of how. Truth, while it may seem a deep profound mystery of being, it is in fact not something you really need help figuring out. In fact, to become Que, an adherent of Natural Spirituality, you have to make a choice between what you believe and the truth. Natural Spirituality is not about “the search for truth” because you already know the truth. You cannot find what isn’t lost.

The truth is not hard. It is not hidden or a mystery and it is not something to figure out. The truth is simple. You already know it. In fact, most people know right from wrong. They just don’t give a fuck. They want what they want and they are going to get it… somehow. If you stare into a mirror and look deep into your own eyes you will realize you know the truth. You just don’t want to accept it. Some people would rather die than accept the simple truth. They would rather suffer than change. Here is the thing, The phrases “most people”, “some people”,“they” these are all a euphemism for “i” and “you”. You are most people. Look, the truth is simple. There is nothing to figure out, really there isn’t. You could pray, sing, dance, get high, numb yourself in whatever you like, nothing you do will change the truth. You can employ whatever wishing craft you feel good about. A lot will happen but nothing will change, because change demands accepting the truth.

The truth is not subjective, interpretive or conceptual, and it is not negotiable. There is no my truth, your truth, and how you feel about it doesn’t make any difference. The Greek word for “truth” is aletheia, which literally means to “un-hide” or “hiding nothing.” The truth is always there, always open and available for all to see, with nothing being hidden or obscured. Feeling certain doesn’t make something truth. Truth is an accurate illustration of objective reality. The condition of something being true or false is subjective and is the output of a criterion. Truth is in accord with fact or reality. The ultimate or highest truth is what something is “not”. As only this can be a context independant truth. All truth is therefore context dependant. Context does not mean subjective. Context means context. The truth is not subjective, interpretive or conceptual, and it is not negotiable. There is only one thing you can do with truth. Accept it or reject it and this is a choice.

In the context of spirituality, personal transformation, or whatever euphemism you like. The truth is this: everything you know is wrong and everything you believe is a lie.

Everything you know is wrong:
 Attraction does not mean Affection
 Love does not mean Safety
 Money does not mean Security
 Feelings don’t make anything true
 Sex does not mean anything
 People don’t believe you
and oh yes, there is no free, everything has a price and you do have to pay.

Everything you believe is a lie:
 You are special
You shouldn’t have to work for it
 You are not like “them”
 You are better than
Wishing won’t work

The simple truth is you know not what you do. Because, everything you know is wrong and everything you believe is a lie. You can’t get the results you want because you don’t know how to do what you intend. You doing the best you can with what you have and is holding on for dear life. Why? Because, everything you know is wrong and everything you believe is a lie. This is the simple truth. The real question is can you accept the truth? The hard part is what are you going to “do” with what you now know.

When you look into your eyes you see a man or woman who says to themselves, I am going to have it my way or nothing at all. Well since you can’t have known what you don’t now know. And, because everything you know is wrong and everything you believe is a lie. Your way isn’t going to work. It never has and it never will. So, by default, you are going to end up with nothing at all. This time, next time, every time, it will be the same as the last time. It will not be different this time around. Optimism will not win out over experience. Only action gets results. Listening to your feelings, intuition, all that, just means you have a justification for taking the same actions, over and over again. Until you get to the point of enlightenment, where you come to realize that everything you know is wrong and everything you believe is a lie. You are going to end up with nothing at all. In the end you will be right. You will have it your way AND end up with nothing at all.

The power to transform your experinece of life is a power all humans have but it lies in the opposite direction of intuition. It is not something you make happen. It is something you allow. It is not about strength of will. It is about humility. It is not something you feel. It is something you know. Hoping and wishing, grasping and wanting all this is an exercise in futility. Believe whatever story you like but it is all to no avail. The fact is the universe does not know you even exist, nor should it. It does not care. Only action get’s results. Right action gets right results. How you feel, what you intend, all of that is irrelevant. Success is not negotiable. The only thing you can get on your terms, is nothing. “Your way” is a path of painfully learning the simplest of things. Because everything you know is wrong and everything you believe is a lie. The question is have you had enough pain and suffering to surrender “your way” and embrace the simple truth?

Now you may feel that what you believe “must” be true. Otherwise you wouldn’t believe it. After all you feel it deeply. The fact is you don’t believe something because it is true. This is vanity. You “believe” because you “want” to believe. Whether it is true or not is irrelevant. Believing something doesn’t make it true. You instinctively know the truth but you refuse to believe it. Not believing something doesn’t make it not true. You believe, because you want to, you really really want it to be true. You hold on tightly and cling even more desperately because you suspect that everything you know is wrong and everything you believe is a lie. You know the truth, you are just trying to “not believe” as a way to “deal” with it. There is no deal to be made. The truth is non-negotiable.
You can, of course, keep trying to prove you are right. How’s that working out? You keep doing what you are doing and you will keep getting what you are getting. What do you call someone who takes the same action over and over and each time, ignores the evidence, and expects a different result? You don’t think “ that’s stupid”, which means slow to learn. You call that person insane, the extreme expression of stupidity, that is they refuse to learn. If you think you cannot do something you are right. If you think you can you are also right. The question then becomes how much more “right” can you afford to be?

You can pretend you don’t know the truth. Come up with an elaborate story and engage in a search for the “answer” but the truth is you already know the answer. The answer is everything you know is wrong and everything you believe is a lie. You don’t need to search for truth because the truth is not lost. You search for answers because the simple truth is not the answer you are seeking. What you are seeking is a way to not to have to accept the answer. You trying to negotiate with the pain and suffering. But, here is the insight, the truth is that pain you are feeling isn’t outside. It is inside. That is your ego: kicking your ass, resisting and holding on to a delusion. You are hiding the truth from yourself. Hiding doesn’t change anything. Pretending doesn’t change anything. Changing how you feel doesn’t change anything. Ignorance and indolence is not a condition. It is a choice. Your choice. You could join the resistance. Keep up the good fight. Show them all. OR You can accept the simple truth. It is just a question of how much more time do you have to waste?

The truth is simple. You don’t know what you are doing because everything you know is wrong and everything you believe is a lie. You are not special. You are just like everyone else. Now, you have to work twice as hard and pay twice the price because you believed the lies you told yourself. What is important is what are you going to do with the time you have left?

Everything you need to know is already known. You get no credit for figuring out what is already known. You get no points for inventing the wheel. When you finally “figure out” that the flaw in the strategy is you. It is all you. It is all your fault. The secret is there is no secret. When you stop looking everywhere else and start looking in the mirror. When are done, playing mind games with yourself and you are ready to surrender. When you stop asking why? why you? and you start asking the question of how? Then there is help and there is hope. When you can ask for help, surrender your ego, do what you are told, in other words when you are humble enough to be taught, when you accept that everything you know is wrong and everything you believe is a lie then you can awaken and become.

If you are serious about lasting change then Natural Spirituality offers an education and some invaluable life skills to help you transform your experience of life. Education is not free. It is not a gift. It is something you must earn. It is not the kind of education you get to get a better job. It is the kind of education you get to live a better life. It is not about a search for truth. It is about what to do once you accept the simple truth.
