Receiving errors is a common phenomenon in electrical devices and especially the ones that are linked to a computer. Printers also belong to this category, and there’s no doubt that they’ll also show errors. All you need to do is find the reason behind the error but if your HP printer is showing as offline but connected to the network, there could be several reasons behind it.

The printer might not be in good physical condition itself, or you could have a corrupt printer driver installed on your computer. The drivers that control a driver are the ones responsible for sending output from the computer through the USB drive to print out. There can be other reasons as well, so let’s take a look at them and the solutions to get rid of them as well.

Printer Set To Offline

First of all, you need to check if the printer has been set to “offline” or not. To do that follow these steps:

1. Open the Control Panel and from there Devices and Printers.

2. As you see the installed printers list, find yours and right-click on it.

3. Make sure that it has been set to default and if not set it as the default first.

4. Then, again right-click on it, but this time click on “see what’s printing”.

5. From the new window, click on the “Printer” tab, and remove the checkmark in front of “Use Printer Offline”.

Software Problem

When an HP printer is online but says offline, it could be due to a software problem. If you’re using Windows 10, click on the “Start” button, and then, click on the “settings icon” on the bottom left. It will open the Control Panel from where you will find “Printers and devices”. From there, you’ll find your HP printer; right-click on it, and from the printer properties, choose “Security”. All you need to do is check a tick-mark in front of all of the boxes and “allow” has been set.

Poor Configuration Of Print Port

Another reason why your HP printer says offline but connected to Wi-Fi is because of the poor configuration of the print port. You have to make sure that it is configured properly and uses the proper USB port.

1. Go to the “Devices and Printers” section as mentioned in the previous method.

2. Find your printer, right-click on it, and choose Printer properties.

3. Go to the “Ports” tab and check if the right USB port has been selected or not.

4. Make the changes and set the right port.
