Prison Marathon Training — Post 3
It’s the Saturday following Thanksgiving, November 26th, 2022. I have just finished a 3-mile run and am at the end of my 4th week of “training to train.” So, I’m now ready to start the four months toward the marathon.
This week was precisely to schedule: 2 miles Monday jogging, Tuesday Run/Walk four sets of 1/4 miles, Wednesday/Friday off, Thursday/Saturday 3 mile runs. It was a total of 10 miles and will be very similar to next week’s first week of training.
This week in prison was a good week. The prison did a shockingly good job of making it a bit like a holiday. Our meal Thursday was turkey, ham, cranberry sauce, and Pecan Pie, and we had leftovers to make ham sandwiches Thursday evening, so just a great food day. On Friday, we had a fun Turkey Bowl flag football game, and my team won (a box of gummy bears as a prize). Short of missing family and loved ones terribly, it was a wonderful Holiday week.
Next week, I will get my 1st month of training posted to lay out my goals for the next 30 days. At this point, the runs are short enough that the track has been a nonissue and boredom hasn’t set in. It’s still a bit exciting to have a goal and I’m losing a bit of weight, which is a bonus. So, at this point, the race idea is a total success.
