Born in 1990, sentenced to three years and seven months of imprisonment in a general-regime colony under part 2, article 212 (“Participation in mass riots”) and part 1, article 318 (“Use of violence, not dangerous to life or health, in relation to a representative of the authorities”) of the Russian Criminal Code as part of the Bolotnaya case. Charge presented on June 5, 2012. In custody since May 28, 2012. Released: December 25, 2015.

One of the reasons police payed attention to Andrey was a video (0:51) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10yQiDjFLZQ, where it’s not even seen if he kicked an OMON officer or not.

Barabanov is a graduate from a Moscow mathematical college.

Recognised as a political prisoner. Was violated of his right to a fair legal investigation.

  • Andrey Barabanov: “Now, four years after the Bolotnaya-protests, the fear is even more evident — the social climate has become harsher. I have learned that government can use violence against ordinary citizens who wanted to express themselves. It is a frightening development.”

Andrey now works in Russia Behind Bars, a charity organization which helps prisoners and their families.

Andrey Barabanov is detained during the Bolotnaya Square clashes, on 6 May, 2012 in Moscow, Russia.
