Sunday Night’s Presidential Debate Is Going To Be A Shitshow For The Record Books

The world will be watching and eagerly awaiting what comes out of Donald Trump’s mouth.

It wasn’t hard to predict that Donald Trump would eventually destroy the Republican Party. But once again, The Donald is full of surprises and accomplished that much sooner than expected. Tonight’s debate will be one of his last chances to grow his base of supporters—and the stakes couldn’t be higher. The past 24 hours indicate that when Trump gets his chance, he’s going after Bill Clinton’s infidelity.

After the Washington Post published one of the most damaging videos in American political history, Trump did some much-needed soul searching. He started off apologizing if anyone was offended. After that failed to work, he tried apologizing again via the medium that has helped him get this far.

“I’ve said some foolish things but there is a big difference between the words and actions of other people. Bill Clinton has actually abused women,” Trump said in a video statement released around midnight.

Hillary Clinton’s advisors say she’s eager to address Trump’s latest “horrific” comments about women “early” in the debate. Then Trump retweeted Juanita Broaddrick repeating her infamous allegations against the Clintons. On Sunday night, the candidates are prepared to go head-to-head on what’s worse—words or actions. With around 80 million people watching, the only winner of that debate will be CNN.

Bill Clinton has done some inappropriate things. There’s no denying it. But Trump cannot beat Hillary by reminding the world of those actions on a debate stage. We all know he’s going to try and CNN and its advertisers couldn’t be more thrilled about it.

We’ve been down this road before. Trump teased the media before the first debate by floating the prospect of Gennifer Flowers sitting front-row. That didn’t happen. After Trump sniffled his way through a horrible debate performance, he entered the Spin Room and patted himself on the back for not bringing up the former president’s past and the pain he inflicted on his wife and daughter.

Trump doesn’t have the luxury of sparing anyone anything this time. Republican officials by the dozens are trying to distance themselves from their nominee. Mike Pence canceled upcoming campaign events. Hugh Hewitt stepped off the Trump train. Ted Cruz is probably next. Trump has one more card left to play, and it’s going to turn the debate into a complete shitshow. Twenty-nine more days until this nightmare is over.
