The social media depression-

The boom of internet in the 21st century has caused a revolution of sorts. We are what we post. We are what we tweet. To quote one of my favourite movies, we are the “singing dancing crap of the world". Rather, we have become the “tweeting, sharing and stalking crap of the world".

Come to think of it, social media has made us lose touch with reality. A trip to the hill stations is no longer about the hills, terrains and the scenic beauty. Its rather about the Instagram videos that one records while going on a road trip. A baby being born is one of the most poignant things for a mother and a father. Don’t you think we are spoiling the intimacy of the moment by recording it and posting on Instagram.

We are a generation of capitalists with mobile phones as our guns attacking, victimizing and trolling the people we despise through our tweets and posts. Don’t you think the world was a better place without the trolls and the incessant stalking? Don’t you think dining table gossip deserves to remain only in the dining table and not on our precious timelines? Don’t you think our generation has lost the will to enjoy beautiful things?

Why is there so much pressure to be on social media? Why is there so much internet bullying? I admit the lines are blurred. But even then, a little touch of reality always helps separate the delusional from the real.

Perhaps, I’ll never understand the boom. Perhaps, I’ll succumb and survive the boom. Perhaps, capitalism has already taken over. Anyway, its sad because delusion has taken over us and “likes" have started to matter more than actual results. Sad turn of events, really.
