Hurry…!!!Apple just introduced a facial recognition system for its latest marquee phone.

The arrival of facial recognition on the new iPhone X signals a shift in how Apple fans can get access to their devices. Thanks to an array of new sensors and technology powering what Apple calls “Face ID”. Rather than tap your finger on the home button (which is gone), you can unlock the iPhone X simply by looking at it. Apple introduced the Touch ID fingerprint sensor as its primary unlock method four years ago. Users set up Face ID by letting the iPhone X make a detailed digital “map” of their face. The device then scans the user to check for a match before unlocking.

Apple says it will recognize you even if you change your hairstyle, wear glasses, or put on a hat or even if you decide to grow a beard. It’s powered in part by a “neural engine” running on the company’s new A11 Bionic processor. Apple says it worked to prevent the iPhone X Face ID from being fooled by masks or other trickery. It also works with Apple Pay and other features that previously relied on users’ fingerprints.

How Apple’s New Face ID Works?

This technology uses a new front camera setup in the iPhone 10 called the “TrueDepth camera system”. TrueDepth uses a set of sensors, camera’s, and a dot projector to create an incredibly detailed 3D map of your face.

Face ID starts with an image of your face, but builds on top of it with the TrueDepth’s dot projector, which will invisibly project over 30,000 dots onto your face each time you look at your phone, creating and building on its map of your features.

“We use the image and the dot pattern to push through neural networks to create a mathematical model of your face,”. This facial map improves each time you look at your phone.Apple says Face ID will require “user attention” to work, so if you’re looking away or have your eyes closed, your phone won’t unlock.

How Secure is the Iphone X’s Facied..? Just Have a Look.

The biometric security works by using the iPhone’s front-facing camera to register your facial structure as your password. It adds convenience to unlocking your device without lifting a finger.

Numeric Passcodes: hard to guess, easy to change, and legally protected.

It is estimated that the accuracy of Face ID will be up to 60% better than that of fingerprints alone. For Touch ID, the false unlock rate was pretty damn good: TouchID only had a 1 in 50,000 chance of unlocking for the wrong fingerprint. But Face ID is even better: it’s only got a 1 in 1,000,000 error rate.Hacking FaceID, though, won’t be nearly that simple. The new iPhone uses an infrared system Apple calls TrueDepth to project a grid of 30,000 invisible light dots onto the user’s face. An infrared camera then captures the distortion of that grid as the user rotates his or her head to map the face’s 3-D shape — a trick similar to the kind now used to capture actors’ faces to morph them into animated and digitally enhanced characters.

Face ID will activate the iPhone in <2 milliseconds under most lighting conditions. The AI will decide when your gaze shifts and will lock it the iPhone.

The setup for Face ID is simple. The user sees the video motion of the head and duplicates this with an outer ring indicator.

The gaze and the gaze shift will allow for a number of unique attributes to an app. At some point Apple may open a Face ID Kit API development tools allowing gaze to have in impact on the modality of the apps.

New Face ID Based Apple Pay

Face ID with Apple Pay and Apple Pay Cash will fundamentally change how you pay. Apple Pay will be invoked by a double press of the “side button”, the former “lock/power button” showing a new wallet arrangement

Apple Pay + Face ID will work on iPhone X about 50% faster than TouchID. New pay confirmation signals including sound and modified haptics will notify a completed Apple Pay + Face ID transaction.

DrawBacks:

As we know any feature has it’s Pros & Cons, so same with the Faceid. It has some disadvantages too.To know it better just look below :

Identical Twins And Face ID, Seeing Double.

Face ID is very, very accurate except for truly identical twins

Fooling Face ID :

Truly identical twins with Face ID 1.0 will not be able to be differentiate between the two. Called a false positive, this list to current ability of Face ID is present. It may also be possible for a sibling that is looks almost exactly like you to have some minor success in tricking Face ID. This will all change, in the future there will be an software upgrade to make a better discernment. RealFace, the company that Apple acquired has been working on this issue before they were acquired and continue to work on this issue.

It is rare for identical twins to have the same fingerprint so in this very rare case, TouchID is better.

At Last, we conclude that Face ID will radically change everything we thought we knew about authentication. It will change the way we use apps and payments. Face ID alone will become a central selling point for the next iPhones.
