5 Instagram Grid Layout To Make It Look Fabulous
If it looks good, only then I am going to click and read it.
A lot of changes have taken place since 2017 grid styles, the time people first explored the grid layout, and got excited to add it to their profiles. But that time was majorly about the obvious kind of grids specifically — breaking one image to 9 blocks, 6 blocks or three blocks.
With the passage of time, people evolved with the changing time and started focussing on a subtler way of incorporating a theme or layout to their handles. There are a few of the layouts that sustained throughout and are still considered to be great looking and performing.
Before we dive into the different kinds of layouts, there is something more important you need to consider before applying the layout to your brand. Ensure that you choose the layout as per your brand persona. Consider your brand color palette, product/service category, target audience, and brand positioning before shortlisting a layout for your brand. It should be in sync with how your brand is portrayed on the website and the retail stores.
There are particularly 5 kinds of grid layouts which in my opinion work the best:
- Color Theme: Make sure you select a filter that is applied to all the images you upload on Instagram. The filter color should be in sync with your brand guidelines. This will help your profile look similar and consistent. The theme can be — vintage, black & white, tropical, dark, white, orange, and so on. You can use edit tools like Photoshop or an inbuilt image filter to select the filter you want on all your photographs. Just make sure you select the color theme that will look good on 80% of your content that you up out. For example — @byhannahrose she adds a vintage filter to make her profile look consistent.

2. Borders: Adding a white border gives your profile a neat and clean look. Your profile looks like an album and aesthetically symmetric and appealing to the eyes. You can use Squarefit and Squareready to add white borders to your images. You can either create same dimension of the border or add a combination of horizontal and vertical borders. For example, @lady.austin adds a combination of vertical and horizontal borders to her feed.

3. 3-Post Rows: Cutting short the 9 & 6 grid, we have 3 grid layout. This is a theme where you post three different images on the same topic with the same caption for all three posts. The purpose earlier was to depict one story but now it is usually for the aesthetics of the handle as in 2019, Instagram launched multiple image layout which clearly depicts the story but the majority of brands still use this layout for its aesthetics. For example, @personaljournalapp does this really well and an Indian brand Akiva Superfoods also use this approach for some of their posts.

4. Mid Line Text Tiles: This is the most common layout but works the best for the brands who want to focus equally on text and images. The brownie point here is you can mix and match images, text, and videos on your profile. It is not aesthetically pleasing but is very relevant to bifurcate the information you are putting across to the followers. Symmetry is the key component of this type of layout. @jayshetty does great work in using this layout for his handle.

5. Pick Your Elements: This is a theme where you are not adding any specific borders, filters, tile setup to the grid but picking 3–4 elements that will be used throughout. I am personally biased towards this layout as it gives you room to play with different patterns but still looks relevant. Let me explain this properly by using an example of @goldynglow, what they have done is taken 4 elements — ingredients, recipes, human/animals, and text template with colors yellow and white. The benefit here is that they have combines the color, border, and theme along with the elements so the follower understands the pattern and this also looks symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing to eyes. In order to apply this theme to your profile discover the 3–4 elements in sync with the content strategy, you want to focus on and start clicking, designing, and uploading.

Hope this gives you the motivation to start re-thinking about the theme for your Instagram profile :)
