Why trust beats hierarchy

My own experience in implementing computerization/automation/digitalization in large organizations both in the public and private sector. Was not so much about pandering to hierarchy, rules and conventions. But going bottom up with establishing trust cross sectionally, and then using hierarchy to reinforce, recognise and reward. The thing is hierarchy wants to see results and progress at all times. Sure they need to also champion the cause in the first place. But cooperation and collaboration comes from below. And you are alone in that. And it can’t be compensated for by having the right ‘grade' or ‘designation’. It comes from expectation setting and delivering on those. And this is incremental in nature. Not Big Bang.
