While Jones vs. former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic was certainly going to be compelling, the new matchup actually has the potential to be an even more entertaining fight — and bring more intrigue to the next two fights for the heavyweight title.

Here’s a look at the numbers behind this weekend’s co-main event, a matchup between two of the most dominant fighters in the history of the UFC heavyweight division.

The undercard fills out with some of the lighter weight classes getting showcase opportunities. Benoit Sant-Denis is set to take on hard-hitting Matt Frevola in a lightweight contest. Top strawweights Mackenzie Dern and Jessica Andrade are set to slug it out. And Featherweights open the PPV festivities when Pat Sabatini battles Diego Lopes.

Initially, the heavyweight title bout here would’ve seen Jon Jones defending his crown against Stipe Miocic, but Jones ended up withdrawing with an injury. Quite why Miocic wasn’t kept on the card is anyone’s guess, but realistically, this fight might work better anyway.

Aspinall’s lone UFC loss came on July 23, 2022, when he suffered a horrific leg injury just 15 seconds into his main event against Curtis Blaydes. After injuring his knee while throwing his first strike of the bout, Aspinall was out of action for 364 days.

The British fighter made his return to the Octagon on July 22, facing Marcin Tybura in the main event at UFC London. Aspinall beat Tybura by first-round TKO, earning him a shot at the interim title.

Sure, Sergei Pavlovich and Tom Aspinall are only fighting for an interim title, but the smart money would be on both Jones and Miocic — assuming they face off — to retire after their bout anyway. Therefore, the likely outcome is that the winner of this one will find their title upgraded.

The early prelims are due to begin at 11pm GMT (4pm PT, 6pm CT, 7pm ET), with the regular prelims following at 1am GMT on Sunday 12 November (6pm PT, 8pm CT, 9pm ET on Saturday). The main card is then scheduled for 3am GMT on Sunday (8pm PT, 10pm CT, 11pm ET on Saturday).

For the seventh time in eight years since the sport of MMA was legalized in the state of New York, the UFC will invade Madison Square Garden on Saturday for a pay-per-view card that has been highly anticipated since it was first announced.

In addition to having the shortest average fight time, Aspinall also boasts the second-highest striking differential in promotion history. To date, the Brit is outlanding opponents by an average of 4.75 strikes. Former women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg is the only fighter with a higher differential at 4.79. Pavlovich ranks third with a 4.39 differential.

Aspinall’s best performance was against Serghei Spivac in September 2021, where he landed 16 strikes and prevented Spivac from landing a single strike en route to a first-round TKO win.

Pavlovich is currently riding a six-fight win streak, and is arguably the hardest hitter in the division. Like Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, whatever the Russian hits, he seems to destroy. The likes of Curtis Blaydes, Tai Tuivasa, and Derrick Lewis have all been put down by his lethal hands.

The only problem with UFC 295, however, is that the faces above the marquee were changed at the last minute following an injury to heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Still, the show must go on as a pair of title bouts — one for the vacant light heavyweight belt and the other for the interim heavyweight strap — headline the event.

The legendary Jiri Prochazka already has a place in combat sports folklore after winning the inaugural RIZIN light heavyweight title, the GDC light heavyweight title and the UFC light heavyweight championship.

It puts him in a rare category of winning three major titles across three different organizations, and after years of talks with the UFC, Prochazka finally arrived with the world leader in MMA and has not disappointed.

In reality, he has only had three fights in the UFC, but his debut knockout over Volkan Oezdemir earned him a Performance of the Night bonus, while his ridiculous spinning elbow against Dominick Reyes handed him a variety of performance awards outside of the UFC.

Such devastating knockouts fast-tracked him towards the title, where he defeated the legendary Glover Texeira in a fight that won fight of the year with nine different media/awards outlets.

This also moved Prochazka onto a 13-fight win streak since his loss to Muhammed Lawal back in 2015, although that was his second fight of that night, as he beat Vadim Nemkov via TKO before the defeat.

In fact, the Czech superstar only lost the UFC title after vacating it due to a shoulder injury. He is now back, however, and looking to reclaim what is, in many ways, still his crown.

Although these two fighters appear to match up very well, there is one significant advantage for Pavlovich. He will have a six-inch reach advantage over Aspinall, in a fight that is likely to take place on the feet. Pavlovich’s ability to stay out of Aspinall’s range could be a factor that sways the outcome of this fight.
