Why Being In A Relationship Doesn’t Mean You’re Tied Down

A good relationship is only space for growth. Use it.
Often, when people are in relationships, there’s this implicit, under-the-surface conversation that happens where everybody you talk to indirectly hints at an assumed lack of freedom since you’re now a ‘couple.’ I’m here to tell you that it isn’t and it doesn’t have to be that way.
Relationships materialize out of a mutual liking. It’s a transaction of emotion, where both people have something to give each other and in turn, gain as well. How in the world does something as intimate as a continuous, intense exchange of emotion also become something that strangles your freedom? The likelihood of that happening is an absolute paradox.
Being in a relationship is like being in a huge maze, wandering around every turn, finding a surprise everywhere — the only catch is that it isn’t always pretty. But relationships are about searching and looking for the things you desire in life together. No relationship would ever get anywhere if it was tying the people in it down.
A relationship is a newfound, radical kind of freedom where you have the permission to not only chase your own desires but do it with someone you adores and whose goals perhaps match yours too. A relationship is the comfortable silence on a long drive, making you feel like you’re a soaring balloon, flying higher and higher without anybody holding you back.
Being in a relationship means having the unique freedom of discovering another human being and finding out their deepest desires, joys and sorrows. It’s a gateway into another mind and another heart. It’s a source of joy and a bond that continues to give. If you’re in a relationship, you’re never tied down because you’re constantly learning, growing and becoming the best version of yourself, just like you were meant to be. Embrace it because there are no chains fettered to your wrists. It’s just your partner’s hand in yours, reminding you that you’ll never be tied down.
