Depending on whether you’re looking at poverty “threshold” or “guideline”, the amount is different (slightly more or slightly less than $12k/yr). I guess you could argue that it all comes out in the wash because of married couples & dependents, but I’d argue that $12k/yr for a single person would put them right at the poverty line, not above it.
