comparison of Pomodoro technique apps for Mac

Currently tens of Pomodoro timers are popping here and there in the App Store and because I love this technique I want to compare the most relevant of them.

Tomato Timer

This one integrates also into the status bar and has also the possibility to show a bigger dialog window. You can set all the length of breaks and Pomodori and can manage a list of tasks. With $4.99 also not cheap.

Focus — Pomodoro Timer

With $9.99 the most expensive timer in this list. It’s really visible but nice for people who need an eye on the current timer and where a simple status bar icon is not enough.

Activity Timer — Pomodoro Edition

This timer is one with a small footprint and integrates perfectly into the status bar. You can define multiple activities, and the number of pomodori you need, will be calculated. You can set break and pomodoro length and the notification sounds. And the best is, that it is free.

Pomodoro Timer — Focus on your productivity and beat procrastination using the Pomodoro Technique

The one with the longest app name. ;) It’s one of the dominant timers and can provide a big nice looking dialog. It integrates also nicely into the status bar, but is with $2.99 not a cheap app for the features a timer can offer. Break and pomodori length are also customizable like in the Activity Timer.

Conclusion

As you can guess maybe, my favorite is the Activity Timer — Pomodoro Edition. Not because it’s free, but more because it offers exactly the feature I need. The defintion of activities is excellent and the perfect integration in my status bar is optimal. Especially that i can hide the current time and just show the icon is nice.
