June Caloroso is a Recruiter, Career Strategist, and founder of Build With June Consulting. She has spent the last five years building teams as a Recruiter for some of the world’s biggest tech companies from Tech Giants such as Google to Unicorn Startups like Wish. She has a passion for building communities, companies, and individuals by providing the tools and resources they need to show up in confidence through their strengths. With the global pandemic changing the world we’ve all known, June was given the opportunity to finally launch her Career Coaching business while helping her children transition to virtual learning. She has now made it her mission to provide the resources and strategies to job seekers and startups.
PBW: Can share your journey into recruiting, tech and talent — how did you get into the field?
June: 2014 was a pivotal year for me personally and professionally. I took some time off from working in corporate America to spend time with my first child and embrace this new experience of motherhood. During this time, I discovered my passion for building teams and communities from volunteering as a Group Leader for a non-profit called No Excuse Mom. With my new baby in tow, I hosted free workouts for Mothers and children at local parks.
The overall mission of NEM: “To motivate moms to make their health a priority. Our goal is to create a connection, friendship, and a sense of belonging in a supportive, encouraging, and uplifting environment. We believe that health starts at home and that to raise a healthy child, we must be healthy parents.”
Starting a group in my local city exposed me to the fundamentals of recruiting and business development. When I decided to go back to work, I decided to pivot my sales career to a career in recruiting. My recruiting career started in agency, and it was there; I had the first-hand experience of recruiting for various roles. From then on, I had a great opportunity to build teams for tech giants such as Google and Unicorn Start-Ups, such as Wish.
PBW: You’ve just launched your consulting company Build Up with June — what propelled you to start your own company? Why now?
June: I’ve always been passionate about entrepreneurship, and I’ve always coached people through their careers and business. I love being part of someone’s journey, and knowing that I can impact people’s careers has been the most rewarding. After getting laid off in April, I took a month of doing some soul searching. After getting numerous calls from people in my network asking me for help with their job search, I decided this was the perfect time to turn my passion for helping people into a business. With the unemployment rates at a historic high, I knew I could help many job seekers during these challenging times.
PBW: What problem are you solving through your initiatives and company?
June: Personal branding is critical, especially in a job search. I provide my clients with the tools and support they need to feel confident in their job search. Since I’ve recruited in tech for the past five years, I know what recruiters and hiring managers are looking for when it comes to resumes and Linkedin profiles. The services I offer range from Resume building, LinkedIn Optimization, Interview Coaching, and job search strategy.
PBW: What’s your advice to those who have been impacted and lost jobs during the COVID-19 crises — are there any programs you are running to support job seekers?
June: Take the time to embrace those emotions that a job loss brings. Please know that this is not your fault! These are unprecedented times that we live in. Unfortunately, millions of people have lost their jobs due to this pandemic, but I would like to encourage job seekers to take this time to reflect and build new skills that will expand your experience. In addition to applying for positions, I highly encourage everyone to:
1. Optimize your Resume and LinkedIn Profile.
2. Engage and network on LinkedIn
3. Expand your skills by taking online certifications and free online courses
These three practices will help you stand out as a candidate. I do offer one on one coaching and different programs that focus on LinkedIn optimization, Resume Building, Job Search Strategy, and Interview Coaching.
