Dr. John Hamilton Addresses Mega Pastor Creflo Dollar’s Private Jet Request

I was on the phone with my NUMBER ONE FAN (my mom) on Saturday (March 14). She started telling me about the mega pastor Creflo Dollar. If you are not familiar with Dollar, he is the pastor of World Changers Church International (WCCI). According to the World Changers website, their “ministry is a trailblazer, always exploring other innovative avenues to preach the gospel and demonstrate the power of the Word. Three hundred and fifty highly skilled employees staff the facilities of World Changers Church International, which is headquartered on an 81-acre campus near Atlanta, Georgia. The borders of the United States do not restrict the impact of the ministry. True to the name “World Changers,” the ministry has a presence on six continents.”
My mother informed me that the Georgia mega pastor Creflo Dollar recently asked his members to give him $65 million dollars so he could replace his current private jet. This was request was made, because he believes that his current private jet is unsafe for travel. Criticism of Dollar’s request went viral, which made the World Changer leader remove this crazy a$$ request from his website. Because of the internet, I was able to locate what Dollar removed. Dollar or the ministry requested the following, “(W)e are asking members, partners, and supporters of this ministry to assist us in acquiring a Gulfstream G650 airplane so that Pastors Creflo and Taffi and World Changers Church International can continue to blanket the globe with the Gospel of grace.”
Words can’t express how disappointed I was with Dollar for his request. Well words could describe my disappointment, but I will not go there today. Why was I disappointed? I believe we all operate from certain platforms of our lives. Some of us as Dr. John Spruill and I have suggested, have platforms that give us the ability to give life, death, continue the problem or put forth solutions. What if that $65 million dollars would have been requested to aid in rebuilding the inner soul of Ferguson? What if the $65 million dollars request would have been asked to train thousands of police officers in the United States in diversity and sensitivity training? What if that $65 million dollars would have been requested to offer job training and placement in STEM (Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to close the digital divide? Although I am not in the World Changers ministry, I do know the questions I posed would exemplify the true calling of a WORLD CHANGER.
Like I told my mother, I am sure Creflo Dollar will get his new plane. However, not many rushed to Dr. Umar Johnson to raise the $4–5 million dollars to secure the St. Paul ‘s College as a boarding school needed to assist our Black boys. We must consider our investment to not only uplift a nation, but also invest in not allowing a Black nation of men become extinct.
