What is Ekpo?

Nigeria is blessed with a rich cultural heritage. The Ekpo is popular in the southern region of Nigeria. It means a masquerade or a ghost. As typical of African countries, it is generally believed that masquerades represent the spirit of the dead.

Apart from the fact that masquerades embody the spirits of our forefathers, who are long gone, they also signify the bridge between the living and the dead. This means the living can hear from the dead. Besides, the presence of the masquerades suggests that our ancestors are with us and they are aware of the activities of the living.

As an art form, Ekpo originated from Cross River and Akwa Ibom. However, the practice later spread to Abia State. The Ekpo was known to maintain law and order in the society before the advent of Christianity and modern civilization.

We will be the lens through which African heritage and artifacts are seen and appreciated globally.

Mission Statement

Ekpo is going to build a metaverse hub that brings fun to the virtual world, especially some of the activities our ancestors had in their time. We intend to invite both female and male ancestors to our modern gatherings as we did traditionally in times past, thereby letting the world see and interact with them. We also aim to earn and support talented people from the rural areas, trenches and slums by bringing education and intervention to them.
