I was there, I saw that shitshow myself up close. And unfortunately I can’t agree with you here. There were far more than just “2 score” Antifa thugs walking around the Commons.
Almost the whole counter-protest, top to bottom, was an orgy of blind, vile hatred. I tried to discuss things with various protesters, and while a few were reasonable, most were disgustingly closed-minded. People were screaming “we’ll shoot you first!”, or “get out of Boston!”, or simply “Nazis shut up!” — but there was no evidence whatsoever that there were any Nazis around. [Unless you count Antifa as Nazis, then they were bloody everywhere.] Even the “reasonable” ones reacted with hostility when I criticized the Antifa presence.
The worst part is the reaction I see from my peers at the university. They’ve swallowed the false media narrative whole; they really think that people who viciously threaten doxxing and march around in black masks and hammers-and-sickle insignias are the good guys.
The bottom line is whatever faith I had in the restraint of the American Left is now severely diminished.
