The photoshop AI killer?
I assume you are aware of the many AI tools created by graphic designers, such as image generators, image upscalers, super resolution, black and white to color image converters, and object erasers. Previously, you had to spend hours watching tutorials to achieve the same effects in Photoshop, but now you can achieve them in seconds with just a few clicks.
That’s good, but what if there was something even better?
Today, I want to introduce you to Kartiv, which could be the “Photoshop killer.”
What is Kartiv?
Imagine using Photoshop, but instead of manually applying filters, creating layers to adjust curves, and clicking the text button to add text, you could achieve everything by just typing.
“Apply a neon filter to this image, and add the text ‘NEON LIFE’ using the Helvetica Bold font with a 20px size.”
Amazing, right?
Well, Kartiv is an AI tool that aims to surpass Photoshop using AI and models such as Stable Diffusion and GPT-3 to create and edit stunning visuals just by using prompts, much like you’re doing with ChatGPT.
In Kartiv’s presentation video, we see a “mango fruit product” that is uploaded to Kartiv, and using a simple prompt, Kartiv is able to create 3D designs, change the product’s color, create mockups, resize the image, and even create an animated video.
The prompt for the video is:
“A video of the product with mango fruits and modern style elements in the background,”
which Kartiv translates into a more understandable prompt, “A video of a canned drink with mango fruits, geometric shapes, a yellow theme, and playful animation.”
You can even edit and create variations of the product from different perspectives using the same prompt.
The downside..
is that Kartiv is still in beta testing. The team’s example video is just a demonstration, and Kartiv is not yet available for general use. However, you can join their waitlist to be among the first to experience the power of this AI tool that was created to simplify graphic design.
Should Photoshop be afraid?
In short, not really yet. Kartiv is still in beta, and Photoshop has been the go-to tool for designers for many years. However, in the coming months, we may see a surge in early adopters of this new AI tool, especially for creating mockups, logos, and social media content in half the time compared to classic Photoshop. We should also remember that Kartiv is not the only AI tool aiming to compete with Photoshop; Canvas, Adobe’s biggest competitor, has an image generator created by designers to boost user workflow.
As a designer, what should you do?
It’s simple. Learn everything you can about AI, and don’t limit yourself to just one tool. Explore other tools that can make your work easier and faster, such as upscalers, social media content creators, and more. Learn how to use Stable Diffusion and Midjourney effectively, as well as how to do inpainting and outpainting.
I’m confident that the 80% to 90% of designers who are only using Stable and Midjourney to play and say “I can do it better” should instead be thinking “Oh no, I might lose my job.”
