Empathy is too often confusted with sympathy.

Empathy is being able to see something from someone else’s perspective. If you are a writer, it means getting into the reader’s head. If you are designer, it means invading the user’s life and experiences. People say Steve Jobs lacked empathy. No, he lacked sympathy. And compassion. Empathy is understanding what drives other people and he had that to a fault.
