Designed by Joseph Alexander Low Waddell, the Colorado Street Bridge is an impressive example of early Beaux Arts-style engineering and features eleven arches. It spans the Arroyo Seco, a tributary of the Los Angeles River in Pasadena. With a total length of 1,467 feet, the bridge is the longest concrete arch bridge in the Western United States.

This landmark is a beloved Pasadena attraction, and a must-see for visitors to the area. As you stand on the bridge, you can feel the wind and hear the gentle babbling of the Arroyo Seco, which was once considered a sacred river to the indigenous Gabrielinos.

You can also walk beneath the bridge, and get a closer view of this imposing structure. The Colorado Street Bridge is part of a series of trails and walking paths that are a great way to explore the historic Arroyo Seco and the surrounding areas of North Arroyo CA.

The Colorado Street Bridge was the first major transportation facility to span the Arroyo Seco and the San Gabriel Mountains. Its construction began in 1912 and took 18 months to complete, with 40 to 100 workers working every day to construct the 11,000 cubic yards of concrete that made up the entire structure.

When it was completed in 1913, the bridge was a marvel to all who saw it. It was hailed as the “longest, highest and most beautiful bridge in the west.”

However, before the bridge was finished, construction of the structure suffered a tragic setback. During the construction process, a worker fell into a creek and died. This is said to be the reason why the bridge is also known as the “Suicide Bridge.”

In addition, several daredevil pilots have flown beneath the bridge for a stunt. Among these was Arthur Goebel, who flew with two women on his upper wing in 1926.

Today, you can see the Colorado Street Bridge in its full glory by taking a walk on the Lower Arroyo Seco Trail. This is a popular and scenic path for people to stroll, jog or bike along the water’s edge.

This is a great way to enjoy the beautiful weather, while getting a nice exercise and exploring the area of Pasadena. This is a wonderful spot for families and couples to take a relaxing walk or a hike in the area.

The city of Pasadena is in the process of developing a series of new trails that will link all parts of the Arroyo Seco, including the Colorado Street Bridge and Hahamonga Woodland Loop. With the help of a $1 million grant from the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, the One Arroyo Foundation is moving forward to bring these trails to life. The organization has a long history of preserving the Arroyo Seco, which is considered one of Pasadena’s most valuable natural resources.
