MEV Smoothing

What is it and why do we want it?

MEV in and of itself has enormous economies of scale. If left alone, this will lead centralization of validators.

One solution to this centralization problem is MEV smoothing. Instead of all MEV from a block going to one builder/proposer, you could put the MEV in protocol escrow and then distribute more evenly. Thus smoothing out the returns of MEV and removing centralization incentives.

MEV Smoothing would lower variance and payoff (of MEV) similar to what we have seen in mining pools vs solo mining and staking derivatives vs solo staking.
